This binder from Schmincke is the basis for easily making your own acrylic paints. The medium contains everything you need except the pigment itself.

How to use:

Shake before use. Spread a teaspoon of pigment on a glass plate or flat glass tile and mix in the appropriate amount of base. The ratio of base to binder depends greatly on the type of pigment (each has slightly different properties, weight, etc.). If you are unfamiliar with the pigment, start with approximately 2 parts base to 1 part pigment. Mix thoroughly, for example with a spatula or spoon. Depending on the mixture, add pigment or base until the paint has the right consistency for use. The proportions are ideal when the dried paint strokes have a smooth surface and do not crumble.

You can use the paint right away or store it in a sealed container, preferably glass or metal. You can dilute the paint and the base itself with water. The resulting paint is water-resistant, has a very long shelf life, and does not yellow when dry. You can also use several pigments at once to achieve an original shade. In that case, we recommend mixing even more thoroughly than when using just one pigment.
