Schmincke Binder for Watercolors is the basis for easily making your own watercolor paints. Medium already contains everything needed to make watercolors except the pigment. The finished paints remain water-soluble even after drying and are suitable for all types of watercolor painting, from delicate, even gradients to bold applications of paint.

How to use:

Shake before use. Spread a teaspoon of pigment on a glass plate or flat glass tile and mix in the appropriate amount of binder. The ratio of base to binder depends heavily on the type of pigment, as each has slightly different properties, weight, etc. If you have no experience with the pigment, start with approximately 2 parts base to 1 part pigment. Mix thoroughly, for example with a palette knife or spoon. Depending on the mixture, add pigment or base until the paint has the right consistency for use.

If you want to use thick paint, like paint from a tube, keep it at a paste-like consistency and store it in a sealed container, preferably glass or metal. For pans, the paint should be a little thinner, but still highly concentrated. Then put the paint in a pan and let it dry at room temperature. You can thin the paint and the base itself with water.
