Violet Gorilla in Bwindi - Paint by Numbers Kit

A silverback-sized gorilla sits in a violet and deep-blue coat, and around him the clearing glows in yellow, lime and orange. That contrast is the heart of this Bwindi Impenetrable National Park scene. Every coin-sized dab of color is laid down separately, yet from across the room his heavy shoulders and calm, watchful face read as one solid mass with a crisp silhouette.

Behind him a calm band of green trees frames a high-key sky, with the sun bleaching the upper corner pale yellow. In front, a meadow of orange blossoms and tall grass blades lifts the whole canvas into full daylight. As you paint, the complementary colors vibrate against each other, and the gorilla's brow and knuckles slowly emerge from the numbered shapes.

The large, clearly divided dabs make this a friendly pick for beginners. Hobbyists will enjoy the challenge of blending the violets, and it makes a thoughtful gift for anyone who loves Uganda and its national parks. Pick up your brush and give the gorilla his sunlit clearing.
